LAMP's First Official Prayer Flight

LAMP’s first official flight for the sole purpose of praying took place late in January, 2009, in Edmonton, Alberta. Ron and his daughter Andrea, pilot Rev. Steve Dreher, and I flew over Edmonton during the time of the largest “equipping and renewal conference in North America”(called Breakforth”). What an amazing thing it was to fly over the city and pray for the many pastors, music leaders, and other local congregational leaders who attended the conference.

‘“You are my witnesses, O Israel!” says the LORD.’ We prayed for healing, that God would begin with us and those in the church, and that He would use us to spread His love throughout the land. Watch for more updates on the LAMP Prayer Plane in future editions, as we travel to places where God leads, interceding on His behalf for people in the remote areas of Canada.

Y2Y -- Youth in Pelican Narrows on Fire for Jesus!

Recently, a small youth group has been gathering in the community of Pelican Narrows, Saskatchewan. The group began when two grade 12 students wanted to make a difference in their community. These two invited a few of their friends, who invited a few of their friends, and Y2Y (Youth 2 Youth) was born.

Like many northern, native communities, Pelican Narrows sees a lot of poverty, broken homes and broken lives. These problems are fueled by addiction to alcohol and drugs. Y2Y, a group of youth ages 13-19, believes that God has called them to reach out to youth in small communities. They want to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with young people, to bring them hope and a reason to live.

One of our volunteers received a request from Kimmie, a Y2Y’er, asking for Bibles. LAMP responded by sending 40 youth Bibles into the community. They were received with much enthusiasm, as this note from Kimmie reflects:

"Oh, so I went running to the post office today. All excited, hoping the Bibles are in, and then my mom tells me they came in last mail day. Thank you SO SO SO MUCH! You don't know how much this means to me, to the Youth, to God. You’re a blessing!"

LAMP Executive Director Ron has asked Kimmie to take part in a prayer flight over her community. Citizens of Pelican Narrows, watch for the plane this summer!
Jesus in Public School: A Report from Shamattawa
As reported in earlier LAMPPost editions, Shamattawa (a rough town a few hours northeast of Winnipeg) had agreed to have a LAMP team visit their community once again in summer, 2008. However, all doors closed for the team from Michigan, led by Patty J. Kernstock. Things simply could not be worked out.

Disappointed, but not defeated, missionary/pilot Steve Dreher spoke with leaders in the village, and plans were made for a LAMP team to visit the community in early December, to teach the children about the birth of Jesus … in the public school! Poor flying conditions forced the team to travel commercially into Shamattawa from Winnipeg. Once there, they shared the joy of Jesus’ birth and the hope of God’s love with 197 students, teachers, aides, and other adults in the community.

The message reached deep into one young girl’s heart, as she shared with her teacher, following the lesson, that she had planned to commit suicide, because of being bullied. But the simple message of Jesus’ love gave her new hope and a reason to live. We pray for this young girl, and that God’s message of love and hope will reach many more in need of Good News.
LAMP Unto My Feet
Isaiah 40:28-31 declares: “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.   He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak…”

Spring is here, and with the fresh air and gentle breezes comes the joy of seeing things 'presumed to be dead' bud forth from the earth. Spring for me is a reminder that every day I live is a new day to live for Christ.

God's Word tells me that the everlasting God, the Creator of the seasons, knows everything about me; my joys and victories, my weaknesses and pain. His understanding is something I will never, ever be able to comprehend. What comfort to know this! What joy it is to understand that I am not He. Oh, how I want to live my life as if I knew this to be true.

Thank You, God, for loving me. Thank You for giving me power and strength, for knowing just what I need each moment of every day. Thank You that Your promise for me, as I wait upon You, is to have renewed strength, and to run and not be weary, to walk and not be faint. I praise you, God, most of all for the gift of Your only Son, Jesus Christ, who died and rose again so that I might have life—new life! Amen.
