Sports Ministry Program Volunteer Information
LAMP's Sports Ministry Program is comprised of co-ed sports teams which teach soccer skills, general healthy living skills, (including nutrition), and the Gospel of Jesus Christ to native children and youth.
Sports Ministry Program Coordinator James Avery checks out the soccer players in Hazelton, BC.
A typical day during the soccer camps begins and ends with prayer, and includes 3-4 hours of soccer practice. Healthy snacks are distributed during breaks. Rest periods are opportunities to teach curriculum to the youth. Teaching times include Bible stories, discussion questions, skits, and puppet shows. The Sports team also hosts campfire worship every evening. The team leader is responsible for planning devotions for the worship time. Each team member is required to take part in all activities.
The Sports Ministry team travels to different communities throughout the summer, presenting the Gospel to youth in remote areas of northern Canada who are too old to participate in Vacation Bible School.
